The 5th Fort Museum
History of the Museum:
Fort No. 5 is a unique monument of Russian fortification art of the late 19th — early 20th centuries. The fort was one of the defensive objects of Brest-Litovsk fortress of the second line. It was built in the 1880s and is located in 3 km from the Brest Fortress. In 1995, Fort No. 5 was included in the list of historical and cultural values of the Republic of Belarus of the 2nd category. In 1999, it was transferred to the balance of the State Institution Memorial Complex "Brest Fortress-Hero". On May 8, 2000, the solemn opening of the branch of the memorial complex — "Fort No. 5" took place. It is planned to create a museum of the history of fortification and weapons in the fort. At the moment, there are 2 exhibitions in the fort:
- an open armament area, where 9 Soviet artillery pieces of the Great Patriotic War period and a Soviet BTR-60 armored personnel carrier of the 1960s are exhibited. These exhibits were donated by the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus;
- photo exhibition "Western outpost of the Fatherland" about the history of the construction of the forts of Brest-Litovsk fortress and the fate of the military personnel of the fortress garrison of the late 19th — early 20th centuries.
Visitors will be able to get acquainted with concrete caponiers and semi-caponiers, underground galleries (posters) and other fort structures.
Important note: when visiting the fort, wear comfortable shoes, warm clothes and take powerful electric lights with you.
